United Martial Arts and Fitness, UMF Academy, was established in 2005 by Pablo Cardenas. 
UMF Academy: Building Champions On and Off the Mat
UMF Academy has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a North Queensland Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy with just 30 students. Today, it's a thriving martial arts center offering a variety of programs to over 160 students, all within their dedicated training facility.
The ability to protect yourself or a loved one is, without a doubt, one of the most valuable skills you can have.
Programs for Everyone:
- Adults 15+: Train in Wing Chun Kung Fu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing/Boxing, Krav Maga, and biannual Self-defence Bootcamp.
- Kids 4+: Develop confidence and skills with Little Dragons 4-7, Young Warriors 8-14, Kickboxing/Boxing 4 Kids 6-14, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 4 Kids 6-14, and MMA 4 Kids 6-14.
- All programs incorporate anti-bullying strategies and the industry's #1 Character Development System, licensed exclusively to UMF Academy in Townsville. This program, designed by a child development expert specifically for martial arts, helps children develop positive behaviours that translate to all aspects of their lives.
More Than Just Fighting:
UMF Academy attracts people from all walks of life – tradies, soldiers, doctors, lawyers, students, teachers, and more. They come for the same reasons: to improve themselves, their health, and their ability to manage stress. At UMF Academy, the lessons learned on the mat become tools for a better life.

Our Heritage
UMF Academy takes pride in understanding its historical foundation and where it comes from. In 2013, Sifu Pablo was part of a global delegation to China’s Henan Province led by Grandmaster William Cheung. The delegation, with local Shaolin monks led by Abbot Shi Yongxin, participated in a ceremony that recognised Wing Chun’s Shaolin origins.
The delegation included masters and students from Australia, the UK, the US, Canada, Italy, Slovakia, China, Japan and Turkey, and their names are engraved on the twenty-foot high plaque (see left). Some of the more famous names include, Shannon Lee (daughter of Bruce Lee), Mike Tyson, Chris Tucker, Stevie Wonder and Robert Downey, Jr.
