Train to be a Strong Opponent; not a Victim
Almost 500,000 Australian women have experienced violence, threats or harassment in the past 12 months. (Source; Women’s Safety Report, Australian Bureau of Statistics)
With the right kind of training, women are better able to discern the warning signs of assault and more willing to speak and act on their own behalf. Together these are the elements that reduce the odds of an assault. (Source: 2009 University of Oregon)
So it is a sad fact that women are these days feeling far less safe walking down the streets. Many have the same feeling of fear and lack of security, in their home, at work or for that matter even while they are out on the streets during off-peak hours. Still, unfortunately women are the main target of such sudden uncalled attacks.
It is vitally important for women to stand up for themselves and to train to be a strong opponent with the tools you need to protect yourself, and the ones you love, tools that could even save your life if such a scenario is to ever occur.
We understand that as woman, a number of questions could have crossed your mind in regards to self-defence. Some of the most common concerns or limitations that restrain women from taking an anticipatory measure are:
• What would I do if this was to happen to me?
• How should I react?
• Will anyone ever help me?
• Will I freeze?
• Will I even be able to fight?
• Will I survive?
To answer these questions you should have the tools and abilities to deal with any violent or aggressive situation and be able to count on yourself to take control and to survive regardless how strong the attacker.
You need to learn the tools and techniques to fight back!
Only you can make the effort and take the initiative to equip yourself with the necessary skills to defend yourself. Although many women have the courage to stand up for themselves, not many know where to begin in resisting an attack.
Our women’s self-defence classes are based on natural moves and realistic techniques so anyone in any size or shape can win over a much stronger opponent. As most of the violence towards women are generally made by men we will teach you the right technique that is effective in handling stronger and larger opponents.
When you come to our women self-defence classes, you will:
• Develop confidence and self-esteem
• Build mental and physical strength
• Gain environment awareness
• Learn basic kicks, punches, chocks and other moves to repel any unexpected attack
• Know how to defend yourself against multiple attackers
• Acquire ‘hold techniques’
• Master some release techniques to escape from abductions and pulling attempts
At UMF we feel it is vitally important to not only teach you the physical side of self-defence but also for you to understand the awareness side thoroughly. Far too often women can end up in physical situations which could have been avoided if only they had the prior theoretical knowledge and awareness to get themselves out of danger before it even happens.
We also teach techniques against resistance, ensuring that you can confidently and effectively use our techniques against a real attacker and so that you can familiarise yourself with the force and resistance involved in a real-life self-defence situation and know what to do to stay safe.
Our self-defence classes are suitable for every women regardless of age or fitness level.
We believe so strongly that women deserve to feel safe and be safe in the community in which they live that we offer our self-defence classes free of charge to women who choose to empower themselves to no longer fear their world but become a fierce opponent should they need.
